Xi'an

  1. This weekend we went to Xi’an to see the famous Terracotta Warriors. After a long day of traveling we arrived at the Bell Tower Youth Hostel. We had to take a banana boat, bus, taxi, train, taxi, bus, and motorcycle taxi to get there, in that order. It was a pretty cool place in the middle of town. We had roommates from Siberia, Russia, and Australia. We also got our fill of Subway and Starbucks.

The warriors were pretty awesome. There are three pits you can walk around and a museum. The detail and precision with which they were made is amazing. It looks like a tomb unearthed from Egypt.

We also rode bikes on top/around Xi’ans ancient wall, about 9 miles in circumference. That was just as impressive as the soldiers if not more, due to the sheer size and length of the wall. After that we checked out the famous Muslim Quarter for some new foods and different sites. There were lots of street vendors hawking all kinds of junk, clothes, and food. Then the next day we were back on the road again for another 7 hour bus ride home.
